I might do more of these; we’ll see how it goes. If there are any more they will be, like this one, not from the usual sources. We already did a ‘Songs of the Year’, last week.
Top of the list has to be Erika Vikman, the Finnish entry in Eurovision 2025, with the raunchy (to put it mildly) ‘Ich Komme’.
I’ve been watching Eurovision since before it began (figure that one out) and I have never seen anything as dynamic as this. Perhaps Loreen’s ‘Euphoria’ came close but Eurovision wasn’t her best performance of that song.
‘Ich Komme ‘didn’t actually get my vote on the night; that was reserved for another artist for other reasons, but this performance was exceptional and it deserved a much higher placing than the #10 it got.
Note no dancers, choreography performed entirely on her own, one that had to be inch and nano-second perfect and she absolutely owns the freaking stage from beginning to end.
Those perfectly timed, athletic body movements – the hair shakeout, the catwalk strut, the bum wiggle. They look nonchalant but a hell of a lot of work must have gone into perfecting them.
Two highlights for me. The way she casually throws down the second mic stand so that it is perfectly aligned with her body as she straddles it on the walkway. Well, it is about 10 off being parallel, but who is arguing about that? It is sensational.
Then the lift-off on the extended mic stand with the phallus – sorry mic – attached at one end as it blasts into space like its chasing 3I/Atlas. If you look carefully she’s attached to it by a cord about half an inch (1.5 cm) thick. It wouldn’t have held her body weight as she plummeted 10 metres to the floor had she got it wrong.

Those are the risks a top artist takes. And she is one hell of a top artist.
Oh and it isn’t a bad tune either, is it?
