Atom Chris Dall & Powerband (Denmark) – Face Eater Blues (sample track from debut album På styggeste vis [In the ugliest way])

I wish all bands could be like Atom Chris Dall & Powerband. There have never been any half measures with the Copenhagen-based trio of Christoffer Dall, Martin Woodvine and Flavio Galgano. They leave you with no doubts about what they serve up – hard hitting rock, blues, psych and punk – and that is as evident as ever on their debut album ‘På styggeste vis’(‘In the ugliest way’), which has just been released.

The album consists of 12 original songs, all with expressive beat-poetic lyrics sung in their collective native language of Danish. They describe it as catchy, gritty, cheerful and pissed off, all at the same time. It’s good to know rock still has a sense of humour.

I selected the sample track here for the sole reason that the title is in English even if the lyrics aren’t. The imagination can run riot with one that contains the words Face Eater. (Although I was also tempted by ‘Kanonføde’ for which no great linguistic skills are needed to recognise that it translates as ‘Cannon Fodder’ and is quite possibly an anti-war song, punctuated by a guitar break that could be the Battle of the Drones).

‘Face Eater Blues’ may be an early song as it is a “2026 Remaster”. It dragged me right back to the 60s, to early Rolling Stones, perhaps The Faces and The Who. Written and performed with a zest just for playing and with commercial success a merely hoped for by-product.

I was watching one of Rick Beato’s YouTube videos this morning. His subject was AI and he mentioned how, according to the Los Angeles Times, almost 40% of all uploaded songs to online streaming services now are created wholly by way of Artificial Intelligence.

You’ve as much chance of finding AI algorithms in an Atom Chris Dall & Powerband song as I have of getting in Sydney Sweeney’s jeans.

But you’ve every chance of finding intelligence.

(Continues after the Spotify link).

The album was released on Friday, February 20th on all streaming services and vinyl.
