HUVET (Sweden) – Kommentar (single/future debut album track)

Need something to awaken you from your Easter slumbers? Here is HUVET, a Swedish prog psychedelia band that also incorporates sludge, an extreme subgenre of heavy metal that blends slow, down-tuned doom metal riffs with the aggression, speed, and shouted vocals of hardcore punk. So now you know.

An unusual mix of styles and it’s an unusual song from a band whose name is capitalised like one of Donald’s posts on Truth Social. So, in that spirit, THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

‘Kommentar’ simply means Comment in English and I’m not sure what they’re commenting on in a song that falls somewhere between Elton John (get that thumping of the piano keys over a Gatling Gun bass in the opening bars) and Alice Cooper, but it does sound like it might have featured somewhere in 1984. Perhaps in the ‘Two-Minute Hate’.

At the halfway mark it takes on a noise persona, shedding any form of melody for the most part until the conclusion but incongruously featuring a quite delicate flute contribution from Siri Strand. I’ll ask Alexa to comment.

It’s a shame the lyrics are lost on me because they have a reputation for dealing with mental health and societal issues.

It’s also obvious from the studio track that songs like this are going to be extremely dynamic when played in concert. They have ‘live band’ stamped all over them.

‘Kommentar’ is their second single ahead of the forthcoming debut album ‘LP1.’
