We’re late with this one by a month but at least it escaped a cull of singles, EPs and albums which regrettably we can’t cover with limited resources presently.
Coria is new on the scene in Swedish indie pop; one who debuted in 2025. But only in her own right. She has history.
She is the multi-instrumentalist, producer and songwriter behind music featured on Netflix, HBO, SVT, Eurosport and numerous feature films.
And you can tell straight away that she isn’t coming straight out of left field.
‘Lost in Translation’ is the first single from Coria’s forthcoming EP ‘Aftermath’. It is about the grief of realising that you will never meet halfway in a relationship when you have never learned how to understand and interpret each other.
She says the title kept spinning around in her head long before it became a song and I did wonder for a moment if she might have been inspired by the 2003 film of the same title starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, which has a plot which could be interpreted in a similar way.
Whatever the inspiration the song is a cute little builder from simple repeating piano notes and chords via a more holistic electronic composition to something not that far short of cinematic anthem and then briefly back again as if to emphasise how misunderstanding builds and can lead to frustration and ultimately conflict resulting in mutual despair.
Coria is very appealing vocally too although I wish she hadn’t sidetracked into a slightly irritating Sia-like nasal voice drone, fortunately only for a few seconds.
And it didn’t detract from the overall quality of this (to us) debut song which is replete with promise.
