I came across (Knut Andreas) Ramslien, out of Bergen,by chance and this single release, ‘Paranoid’, is over a month old. But I was taken by his sound, which is close to that of the Dane, Lydmor, even down to the word repetition at the end of a line, “to breathe, to breathe, to breathe.”
That, allied to a deeply engraved club groove, intricate synth sounds, unexpected noises off, a thumping bass line and ambiguous lyrics conspire to create an atmospheric club special that could only be improved by being extended and with a little variation in the lyrics.
He’s still very much at the beginning of his journey – I believe this is only his third release, the first having been just over a year ago but the signs are very positive.
His style is influenced by the dichotomy of the Berlin club platform – strong melodies contrasted with (in his case Nordic) melancholy and he shows here that he knows how to get the balance just right.
