Ahead of his forthcoming album ‘När änglar dör’ (‘When Angels Die’), Di Leva has released his new single ‘Kärleken är kung’ (‘Love is King’) and in the style of a “sing-along hymn”; something which he is, if I remember, highly adept at, along with a video which you can see here.
‘Kärleken är kung’ follows Di Leva’s summer single ‘BRA’, which has proven to be a big hit in Sweden.
Di Leva does “feel good” songs better than anyone else I can think of, and I don’t mean only in Sweden. It doesn’t matter at all if you can’t understand him.
And he’s been doing them a long time. So long that in this video he looks like he just arrived from auditions for the next Lord of the Rings film.
It sounds to me like he’s singing “Shelley, Shelley Cole” like he’s chasing a footballer’s wife, but it could be anything.
He can be deep as well though, the message here being that “darkness gives birth to stars”, which is scientifically accurate I suppose if you adhere to the Big Bang theory.
And those stars are the pathway to love, which is King. For Di Leva love is our ‘greatest superpower’, even putting the good ol’ US of A in the shade.
The underlying theory is that the darkness can be your friend for exactly the reason above and that light can come out of darkness, which is never permanent.
I hope to God he’s right because in the predicament I’m in right now all I can see is the abyss.
The album ‘När änglar dör’ will be released on October 10th, and is Di Leva’s first Swedish pop album in twelve years.
