Fame Hunter (Denmark) – Nothing left (track from the EP Fame Hunter)

Thursday night’s fish & chips down the hatch and it’s time for some Danish glam pop.

I can’t say I automatically associate Denmark with stylish pop or rock but Fame Hunter (Siggy Sonne and Heva Vaupel)is “a notorious fashion icon” as well as an electro-pop duo and that’s good enough for me.

A little glamour never did never a magazine any harm, did it?

The band was originally conceived as a fictional act for an Adidas Originals Superstar shoe campaign, but quickly evolved into the real thing with the emphasis shifting from pairs of trainers to a musical project that is focused on electro pop aesthetics from the late 2000’s.

So many quips have been made about them already that that part of my act is redundant.

“They sound like the lovechild of a warehouse rave and a Versace fashion show.”

“It’s OTT on the master bus, ripped tights and head-banging in the back of a cab.”

“The sonic equivalent of smudged eyeliner and cigarette smoke.”

Fame Hunter release their self-titled debut EP on the 6th of June, D-Day to those of a certain age, and it will certainly deliver you from the tedium of your existence.

Each of the five tracks is a manic caterwaul of a thing and collectively might have been the finale of finales at the closing down of Manumission in Ibiza.

Interspersed occasionally are Siggy’s more cultured tones, evidently the Versace part of the equation. (You’ll find it hard to miss the warehouse rave).

There is variation for sure and track four, ‘Heelz’ has an R&B and rap element to it.

Eventually I opted for the third one, ‘Nothing Left’ as the sample track on the simple premise that they probably had nothing left after recording it.

It divides into thirds, the first and last being frenzied yet disturbingly dystopian sections that could have been recorded at one of Big Brother’s daily ‘two minute hate’ sessions in ‘1984’ or perhaps at a Trump MAGA rally while the middle one is Siggy at his soothing best, like a nurse telling you as you come round from the anesthetic that even though they surgically removed your gonads instead of your bunions by mistake it is still possible to have some sort of sex life.

They are assuredly an acquired taste but then for most of us so is fame.
