GLUECIFER (Norway) – I’m Ready (single/future album track) + video

For sure, but are we ready for them?

And GLUECIFER; what a great name for a band. Beelzebub inhaling Loctite behind the school bike sheds is what it brings to mind but I’m sure they aren’t trying to entice youngsters to do that, any more than The Shamen were suggesting they swallowed those little smiley pills in ‘Ebeneezer Goode’.

While they formed in 1994, releasing five albums and a multitude of singles and EPs, and playing hundreds of gigs since, Gluecifer have never before appeared in NMC. But good things come to those that wait and here they are…

GLUECIFER started life as a punk rock band, riding the Scandinavian rock-wave that swept across Europe two decades ago.

They went AWOL between 2005 and 2018 but fan power determined their return and, ultimately, new songs, a plea that has been fulfilled with the album ‘Same Drug New High’, which is set for release in January, 21 years after their last album, for which ‘I’m ready’ is the third sampler after ‘IDIOT’ and ‘Armadas’ and which was composed, produced and mixed in their hometown of Oslo.

There are five members, three of them with made up names – Biff Malibu (vocals), Captain Poon (guitar), and Raldo Useless – who has an air of Jean-Jacques Burnel about him – (guitar), together with Peter Larsson on bass and Danny Young on drums.

‘I’m Ready’ is a song that “kind of wrote itself” according to Biff, who adds, “Captain Poon had worked out a chord structure that fell into place very quickly, and which we thought had a kind of happy and positive sound. I threw in some lyrics in the same vein”.

And hey presto! They had a song.

I wish I could write that easily but it is no great task to come up with something positive to say about ‘I’m Ready’.

Putting punk and post-punk aside it’s a good old fashioned tuneful rock sing-a-long, every bit as appropriate to the cusp of 2025/6 as to 1994. A time machine offering instant transportation to a simpler, more straightforward era, when an Ableton was a walking stick and Autotune a motor repair shop.

The greatest complement I can pay them it is that it could have been written and recorded by Slade.

And Biff has a remarkably preserved and gold-plated rock vocal for a bloke into middle age.

They call them Norway’s Kings of Rock. On the strength of this song and video alone I’m not going to argue about that.

‘I’m Ready’ is taken from the forthcoming studio album ‘Same Drug New High’ – out January 16th, 2026 via Steamhammer.

GLUECIFER have gigs in Norway, Sweden, Spain and Germany in January through March, see social pages for details. Unfortunately no UK locations yet.
