Hazlett (Sweden/Australia – tell me something (single/possible future album track)

The Swedish based Aussie, whom we have twice before featured, the last time in October last year, is back with his new lower case designated single ‘tell me something’, in advance of an album in September.

We have already identified him as the deep-thinking type.

The song relates to the lingering emotions after the end of a deep connection, or a liaison to put it more colloquially.

He says, “If you’re lucky enough to find someone to throw your whole self into, nobody warns you about the untangling that happens if it ends.” But then he is honest enough to advise, “Keep the fond memories, keep the good times, but turn the engine over and see where the road trip to moving on takes you.”

Fair comment, we’ve all been there and some of us have put an inordinate amount of miles on the clock.

When I first put on the headset to listen to ‘tell me something’ I thought the police were hammering on the front door. It’s a dramatic opening to a song which soon morphs into his trademark soulful poetic rendition that will immediately register with thousands if not millions of young hearts.

I did find the lyrics a little confusing in that I was expecting each chorus to end with at least a tit bit about the need to move rapidly to put the past behind you and find pastures new but instead discovered words that suggest he personally finds that to be difficult:

“Heaven knows I need nothing/I heard nothing won’t leave.”

But I want it back/I want it bad”

But therein lies the dichotomy of the emotions of the end of the ‘deep connection’ as he knows all too well. As he says in his Spotify bio, “I’m a little broken, just like you”.

The album ‘Last night you said you missed me’ is out on September 12th.

Hazlett has been confirmed to support Vance Joy in the States (I read that as J D Vance for a moment) and Noah Kahan in Hyde Park, London this summer – his biggest UK show to date.
