When ROSITA (Bramsen) was here in January with her song ‘Still love you’ we noted an attractive, empathetic tone to her voice and also her clear diction.
And they are again in evidence on her second album, ‘Ronja Revolutionen’ (‘Ronja Revolution’) which was released last week with 12 tracks, some sung in Danish, others English, as is her wont.
No, I don’t know what it means, even after scouring AI until I’d bled it dry but I did discover that the album explores themes of courage, freedom, transformation, and a deep connection to nature.
The most overtly titled track is ‘Free Free Palestine’, filling the freedom category, but I hope that both Rosita and her label will understand that we tend to shun such political titles – whatever we say will find both abject favour and dis-favour with many people, clog up the comments box, often with expletives, and to be frank isn’t worth dabbling with.
But there are plenty of other songs that attract attention and I did consider ‘ZIP Code’ as the sample track here; one that nails a country-pop-hoedown style that belongs solely to her.
Eventually I opted for ‘Part of it all’, a more hard hitting country style backed by a strong heart/drum beat, with some gospel added for good measure and in which Rosita appears to be trying to find herself, meaning who and what she is, what “she is supposed to be”, going “into the light”, trying to make connections in the maelstrom of society. A question many people must ask themselves.
Her lyricism is powerful, on top of her other attributes. This is music for the thinking individual but if merely experiencing a strong vocal, and heartfelt songs delivered with depth and conviction is what floats your boat you’ll be setting off on a world cruise.
