28-minute album ‘Imagine Life’ from Finland’s Detalji enters the gates with its heart on its sleeve, pulsating electronica and muscular vocals almost providing a confrontation with the listener.
Inspired by the eighties, locked in a synth galaxy, ‘Dancing (With What’s Left)’ is a powerful introduction to Krista Myllyviita’s Detalji. Track two, ‘Ain’t Faking’ takes up the baton and runs with it, a similarly spacious and yet dense and intense digital world, tipping its hat to both the past and the present.
If you heard most of these tracks on a dance floor on a night out, you would dance, the music seemingly designed to get the body up, to get it moving, shifting towards others, music to explore one’s energy, attraction, and sexuality to.
Nowhere is this greater seen than on ‘Bring Me Back to Life’, a blinding dance track you can easily imagine lasers and noise and sweaty bodies tightly woven together and moving on a dance floor to. You don’t need to imagine life, it’s right here, to be felt, to be lived, and quite simply, to be loved.
A great deal is packed into its run time of less than half an hour. A lot of movement is inspired, a ton of sensations to be explored, and in the end, it is asking to have the repeat button pushed, a little like it feels like a night out and the climax can be anything you fancy really, any button at all pressed.
