Helena Montgomery (Sweden) – Emerald Dreams (single)

Doing this job presents you with more variety than you could ever imagine. It’s right up there with being a teacher, or a police officer or fireman.

Take Helena Montgomery for example. She comes up with something new just about every time she releases a new song. I’ve got used to it by now (and she has been featured here several times) but I wasn’t prepared for her latest single, ‘Emerald Dreams’.

It concerns “finding freedom and inspiration in the colourful world of the night—a personal escape into a magical, creative, and soul-awakening experience under the northern lights and emerald dreams. It’s a journey inward, where solitary moments and self-exploration lead to feeling truly alive and free.”

We don’t get the northern lights that often in England (it is too overcast and grey anyway) although they did turn up occasionally this summer. But I did encounter them numerous times when I used to travel to Iceland a lot and on one occasion, when I climbed up a hill near the hotel to get a better look at them they scared the living daylights out of me when they seemed to sense I was there and sent a spiraling emerald nightmare down in my direction. I didn’t hang around to experience the solitary moments.

Helena has a different take on them though and clearly relishes those colourful nighttime experiences under the lights. The song rattles along at quite a pace, an electro pop extravaganza to a rapid fire beat of the sort I would associate with the likes of Denmark’s Lydmor and quite unlike anything we’ve heard from her before although she clearly moved in the direction of synth pop with the last single reviewed in October 2025, ‘As the river flows’.

She gets her glitter on and looks pretty and there’s no stopping her. For an artist who came into the business quite late she’s seems to be musically regressing towards teenage years and I’m betting this catchy ditty will reverberate around the clubs of Stureplan and Slakthusområdet in Stockholm.

Do I detect a hint of Cher-like auto tune in her voice as well? Blimey!

(Continues after the Spotify link).

The song was co-written together with Lucia Comnes and Anton Aerts, who is the producer.
