Sunday is the day we most often offer up something a little different and at the same time we rarely play house music.
Time to put that right, because it can be the most atmospheric of genres when the artist gets it right. And there’s no doubt that Sweden’s MELR has done just that with his latest single, ‘All with you’.
I don’t know much about MELR but his personal motto is ‘Swedish house music that feels like home’ and there’s something warm and fuzzy about this track that is probably as evident equally on the dance floor and in your living room.
The song’s simple message is that he wants to share life’s ups and downs with the same person, using the bond that has formed between them as a building block. It would suit a couple of young students leaving behind the security of home to jet off on a gap year, taking each day as it comes while finding out what that big world is all about.
It could be their anthem, and especially so as it mingles a euphoric sensation with a contradictory ‘grounded’ feel. You don’t usually benefit from the former without plenty of the latter. If they’re lucky they might even hear it on club dance floors across the world.
The rhythms, the synthesised bass notes, the percussion and the main melody are each hypnotic in their own right and collectively quickly draw you under their spell.
‘All with you’ is the latest addition to a series of releases that aim to move both the heart and the body.
MELR seems to specialise in short, sharp tracks of less than three minutes and that’s probably where he should stay. There is an extended version of ‘All with you’ that runs to almost four and a half minutes but it plods a bit.
Short and sweet is the way to go.
